I had to see if Charity and Dave were going to that fancy ball that I wasn’t allowed to attend to. Whenever I saw Dave with Charity, I did had to admit some part of me was envious of her.
Quietly, I had tiptoed out of my bed, opened my left window, and looked down below. It was mildly windy, so I had to tuck part of my hair behind my ear so that I could see clearly.
By this time, Charlie had woken up already, and started to walk slowly towards me. I knew he wouldn’t bark, so I patted his head showing my thanks.
I turned my full body the opposite side of the window, and carefully crawled out the window. I was on the fourth step of the ladder, and already I felt pretty chilly. I closed the window ajar, and began to carefully go down lower, and lower.
Soon when I was on the damp grass, I had run onto the sandy side of the beach and sprinted across Jason’s giant beach house. You could clearly see he was having a fancy birthday party for himself. In the background, I could hear classy music and the heels of girls’ high-heels clacking against the shiny floor.
In about five seconds, I would finally get there and snatch a sneak-peek of all the couples. When I did finally get there, I started panting like a dog and looked through a window to see. It was very hard to sneak out Dave, or either Charity, so I went to a different window, but then I realized I made a huge mistake.
Jason was there in the view of the window, all by himself sipping soda. I didn’t know that he was facing in the direction of this very window when I decided to come here, but he DID see me. He looked shocked and stared at me for a while. I was momentarily paralyzed and didn’t dare to move. If I did run, it’d be too suspicious and the next day he’d probably ask why I ran off.
He opened the side door of his beach house, while I stood there looking like a complete fool of myself. I mean, I WAS dressed in my P.J’s and my bunny slippers, and he was beautifully dressed up into a shiny black tuxedo.
"Miranda? Is that you?" Jason asked. He closed the side door and the classy music in the background faded away a little.
"Er, uh, yeah it’s me," I replied, stupidly. I tucked a piece of my hair behind my ear. I should tell the truth, I thought. Maybe it’s best..
"What are you doing out here? I invited you, didn’t I?" he asked, curiously. He extended his hand out, expecting me to grab his hand and let him lead me inside.
I DID want to tell him the truth. He was the only one I told the full truth too, no matter how ugly it was. But when I made up my mind about it, I hesitated and felt like I wanted to throw up. "Don’t tell anybody, but I snuck out during curfew," I confessed. The wind was blowing very low now, so my hair just slowly blew in front of my face.
"Miranda.. why?"
"I wanted see if Charity and Dave were going together. As you know… as a date," I replied. I blushed. It was too embarrassing and Jason probably thought I was a stalker. Unexpectedly, Jason just smiled and shrugged his shoulders. "I expected this, so at first, I told Charity that the party was off. She didn’t believe it, and thought it was a joke. I tried everything I could do to get her to stop going, so instead, the only person I could do was Dave. He didn’t come; it worked."
By this time, I was about to be in tears for Jason. He lied for me, but it sorta felt awkward when I said thank you. I wasn’t used to this. "Jason, that’s the most sweetest thing a person could do for me. T-Thank you.." I cried. "Is there anything in retur–"
But he cut me off, by patting my head. "The only thing you can do for me is to smile big, and happy." He had pulled of his jacket and put it around my body.
